First-hand, solid info about working remotely from the Canaries

The information and tips in this three articles are results from my experience working remotely in the Canary Islands. I’ve lived here for almost six years, four in several towns in Tenerife and currently it’s my second year in Gran Canaria.

For almost 20 years I’ve been working as a freelancer and as an employee of advertising agencies, software houses, media houses and corporations as a project manager, marketing specialist, strategist and content creator. I’ve been working remotely for over ten years. I know the digital nomad community on the islands very well.

My story in the Canaries is a journey from a freelancer working remotely at a bar table, to become the owner of a company organising relocation and the lives of workers in the Canary Islands.

I believe that my experience and knowledge can be useful to those who are planning to come to Tenerife or Gran Canaria to live and work remotely in the post-COVID reality. This is 100% reliable and self-tested information. Enjoy your reading.

Article 2: Ideal places to work remotely - Gran Canaria and Tenerife

Working remotely from the Canary Islands

Remote work Canary Islands

2020 was a year of radical change, the key word being SARS-CoV-2. Life has moved online to a great extent. Many industries and professions have disappeared from the market or had to adapt quickly to the new “rules of the game”. However, the restrictions have brought opportunities. Competence and experience in working remotely have become key skills for companies and employees.

Freedom afforded by flexible working hours online has been limited by travel restrictions. Enforcement of travel restrictions and limitations in the choice of workplace forced remote workers to seek safe and attractive locations. The Canary Islands, and in particular Gran Canaria and Tenerife, have become the ideal solution in this situation.

A new benefit for IT employees

Remote work Canary Islands

It comes as no surprise that in times of radical change caused by the viral pandemic, the position of IT specialists on the labour market remains secure. They are among the most sought-after employees, and therefore can count on high salaries and privileged positions in negotiations with employers.

Employers try to attract them not only with a good salary, but also with fringe benefits. As shown by non-wage research, fringe benefits are one of the key contributors influencing the decision on employment or job satisfaction.

“Fruit Fridays” or “gym passes” are no longer attractive motivators for recruitment. In the Covid-19 era, many benefits have also become unrealistic or have lost their appeal to employees. An individual approach to the needs and expectations of an employee has become much more significant.
